COMMITTEE FUNCTION

AFFORDABLE HOUSING/FAIR LENDING

Chair: Sandy Welsh, Ga. Dept. Community Affairs

Educates MBAG members by providing information on:

  • Applicants
  • Community group concerns
  • Recommendations by the Mortgage Bankers Association of America, Federal Reserve, FFEIC and other interested parties.

For the past several years has held seminars in Atlanta high schools to educate students on developing good credit practices. 

Chair makes regular reports to the Board.

CML (CERTIFIED MORTGAGE LENDER)

  Chair: Rick Darlington, SunTrust Mortgage

The CML designation is a voluntary educational designation for residential loan officers who are conducting business within the state. It is achieved through education, experience and participation. The CML committee will oversee the development and implementation of the Certified Mortgage Lender program.

COMMERCIAL PROPERTY GROUP 

Co-Chairs:
Heidi Billington, Rubin, Lublin, Suarez, Serrano, LLC
James Ottley, Cohn, Fyvolent & Shaver, PC

Provides networking opportunities and offers additional benefit to those MBAG members that are involved in income property lending and/or are owners of mortgage companies.
CONSUMER

Co-chairs:
Greg Hart, SunTrust Mortgage
Toby Foster, SunTrust Mortgage

A sub-committee of the Ethics Committee.

  • Fields calls from consumers

  • Helps borrowers understand the mortgage process

  • Answers questions that cannot be answered by MBAG staff.

E.F.X. (convention)

Chair: Debbie Pennington, Fidelity Bank Mortgage

Plans annual convention and assists in assigned area during convention. Regular meetings held in Atlanta September through March. 

Chair reports to the Board of Governors.

ETHICS (Appointed Committee)

Chair: Chum Balk, Georgia Bank & Trust Co.

This 5-member committee is appointed by the President to investigate ethics complaints against member companies.

EDUCATION
Chair: Stephen Cannon, LoanSouth Mortgage

Plans Educational Seminars focusing on operations personnel. The Education Committee & Production Council work in concert to provide educational opportunities for member companies/ loan officers.

FHA-VA/INVESTOR LIAISON COMMITTEE

Chair: Pat Anthony, Crescent Mortgage

Acts as liaison between MBAG members and officials at HUD, VA, and Fannie/ Freddie to keep members informed of pertinent issues. Plans meetings with officials as needed. Chair makes regular reports to the Board and to the membership via MBAG Newsletter. 

Meets with appropriate agencies as needed.

LEGISLATIVE / LICENSING

Chair: Frank Lee, First Bank Mortgage

Works on legislative matters with the Association legal counsel and lobbyist. Meets in Atlanta as needed. Makes regular reports to the Board.

LEND-A-HAND

Co-chairs:
Amy Butler, United Guaranty
Claire Smith, Fidelity National Title Co.

Plans and executes the MBAG Foundation’s Lend-A-Hand project. Meets in Atlanta as necessary. Makes regular reports to the Board. 

MEMBERSHIP

Chair: Scott Burchett, US Bank
Co-Chair: Denise Baumann, United Guaranty

Solicits new members for the Association. Investigates and makes recommendations to the Board of Governors. Meets in Atlanta as necessary.

PRODUCTION COUNCIL

Chair: Elly Gray, Fidelity Bank Mortgage

Provides educational opportunities focusing on loan officers.
Approves courses for Gold Award credits.
Meets regularly in Atlanta.
Dedicated to education and professionalism of its members. Chair makes regular reports to the Board.

PUBLIC RELATIONS

Chair: Rick Floyd,
Real Estate Mortgage Network

The Public Relations Committee is responsible for promoting a favorable image of our association to the mortgage industry, the real estate & general business communities, and the general public by conveying the positive activities of the association. This may be accomplished through various avenues, such as: 

  • Press releases and articles to the news media, corporate publications, mortgage industry publications, and trade association publications
  • Marketing via internet
  • Creating literature that enlightens the consumer on mortgage lending processes and encourages the utilization of association member companies
 Chair makes regular reports to the Board.

QUALITY CONTROL / COMPLIANCE

Chair: Sara Dell, Fidelity Bank Mortgage

Educates MBAG members on:

  • Secondary market investors’ and federal agencies’ requirements in the area of quality control
  • Developing trends in the specific area of quality control
  • New and revised regulations
Meets on a regular basis.  Makes reports to the Board of Governors.
